Sedona Travel Guide

If you’re planning a short, hiking-focused trip, my Sedona Travel Guide will tell you all you need to know for your trip to this Arizona landmark!

How to Get to Sedona

If you’re flying to Sedona, you’ve got two choices: Flagstaff Pullium Airport (FLG), which is the closest commercial airport located about 40 minutes from Sedona, or Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) which is about two hours from Sedona. Most major airlines fly into Phoenix and you’ll have more flight options, but it will be a longer drive to Sedona.

The Best Time to Visit Sedona

Spring and Fall are peak tourism seasons in Sedona due to the more moderate weather, while the summer can get quite hot and the winter can get quite cold (and even snowy). Weekends are more crowded than during the week, so if your schedule allows for some flexibility, visit from Monday through Thursday. If you must visit Sedona during the weekend, consider using the free Sedona Shuttle that runs to trailheads Thursday through Sunday.

Average Temperatures in Sedona

January 34° F / 60° F
April 45° F / 76° F
July 68° F / 100° F
October 34° F / 60° F

Where to stay in Sedona

In 2023 Sky Rock Sedona underwent a complete renovation. The newly redone rooms are simple and stylish with all the amenities you need—including a do not disturb sign that says “I’m in a vortex, come back later”. Rooms feature views of the iconic Sedona red rocks and the hotel is conveniently located on Highway 89A which is convenient to Uptown Sedona and many hiking trails.

Car Rental in Sedona

Uber and Lyft are not readily available in Sedona, so a rental car is very useful while staying in Sedona. I used Fox Rent a Car out of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport as they were the most affordable choice during my trip. I was given a newer model Toyota Corolla and overall had a great experience with my rental!
