Do I need an Italy Visa?

If you are visiting for tourism or business and hold a valid U.S. passport, you stay in the Schengen area (which includes Italy) without a visa for 90 days within each 180-day period. To stay longer than 90 days you must obtain a visa. However, starting in early 2025, to travel to Europe U.S. passport holders will need to apply for a visa waiver. This can be done through the EU’s European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).

How to Get to Italy

Italy has several international airports and which one you fly into depends on what region of Italy you’ll be visiting.

Italy’s largest airports are Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Milan’s Malpensa Airport (MXP). If you’re visiting Sardinia, fly into Cagliari Airport (CAG), and for Sicily, fly into Palermo’s Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO). Tuscany has several options including Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA), Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ).

Travel Visa Guide

Emirates, United Airlines, ITA Airways, Lufthansa, and American Airlines all offer direct flights from the United States to Italy.
